Structural CLT Design Workshop
Cross laminated timber (CLT), now commercially available in Canada, is a versatile, engineered wood panel product with exceptional stability, strength and rigidity that will change how wood is used in all building types.
Valued for its environmental attributes, cost-competitiveness and speed of erection, demand for its use is growing. Develop your capacity to work with this exciting, innovative material. In this engineering-focused, technical workshop you will learn what you need to know to begin designing with CLT.
Topics covered will include product availability, codes and standards, panel design theory, and panel property calculations for strength and deflection. Participants will work through a design example to calculate lateral and gravity loads, and will learn about connections (fasteners and configurations) by examining several connection design examples. Each participant will receive a course pack that includes presentation slide handouts, a copy of the North American Standard for Performance-Rated Cross-Laminated Timber, as well as the drawings and sample calculations from the workshop.
