Western Red Cedar – Residential
Guest House at Myra Canyon Ranch Kelowna, BC
It was the distinct and very predominant exterior deck area that drew the attention of the jury on this project. Western Red Cedar was used as the exterior cladding on this house and was extended into the exterior deck area.
Creating an outdoor house within a house shelters the occupants from the heat of the hot summer days and the rain of the spring and fall while allowing those that visit to enjoy the mountain vista spread out before them.
The double rain screening of this house extends the longevity of the cedar even more and offers additional protection, ventilation and cooling.
The use of Cedar extended into the house with the windows and door casing spreading the warmth of wood throughout the home which is now used as a guesthouse for the Bed, Bale and Breakfast on Myra-Canyon Ranch.
Wood Materials used in the project are:
- Western red cedar Siding
- Western red cedar Upper sundeck
- Douglas fir frame construction
- Douglas fir lower deck
- Douglas fir railings
- Douglas fir windows and doors
- Pine ceiling exterior
