Interior Beauty of Wood – Residential
The Elma Bay Residence
Black Creek. BC
Wood was a natural choice for the interior of this house. The roof is made from Douglas fir glulam beams and rafters and 2 X 8 clear cedar fir decking. The warmth and strength of Douglas fir as well as the versatility of curved glulam beams created a fluid and sculptural roof. The edge grain Douglas fir was also used for a structural window system and frame and panel doors. Eastern Cherry used for the flooring and millwork complements the red highlights in the Douglas fir. The warmth of the wood materials contrasts with the stark exposed concrete fins that act as structural support and shear throughout the house.
Wood Materials used in the House are:
- Hem/fir conventional framing
- Fir ply sheathing
- 1 X 8 clear cedar siding
- 2 X 8 Douglas fir clear edge grain decking
- Douglas fir glulam beams and rafters
- Eastern Cherry floor and millwork
- Douglas fir clear edge grain interior trim
- Douglas fir & Ipe window system
- Douglas fir clear edge grain doors
