The library features a geothermal heat pump, ceiling fans, energy efficient lights, south-facing windows and operable clerestory windows so the system can be turned off and the building ventilated naturally.
The ground floor of the library is 3000 sq ft with a 1200 sq ft mezzanine. It was built with a $450,000 provincial infrastructure grant and $200,000 from the District’s budget.
To honour the history of the town and the significant of wood to the local economy, the “forest” theme evolved. Much of the locally produced wood was donated so it was important to showcase it. The structural timber was exposed to foster an understanding of wood, especially for the children using the library.
