Dr. Tingley will teach the following in this course:

  • Origins of wood deterioration and early detection
  • Interior and exterior decay detection and its effects
  • Core samples analysis versus sounding bores
  • Advanced methods of non-destructive testing techniques and equipment

A Case Study:
A 10-year old abandoned railroad line was purchased to start hauling wood, thus avoiding a seasonal road closure and four hour detour.
Deemed repairable by other consultants, through Dr. Tingley’s testing and knowledge, he proved the bridge could be restored for a fraction of the original replacement cost. His expertise allowed the bridge to be repaired for a L-100 rating.
Within two months, the time and fuel saved from using this bridge paid for the repair costs.

About Dr. Tingley:
Dr. Tingley’s 40 years of experience in non-destructive testing provides accurate data to develop and apply advanced restoration techniques techniques to damaged areas. His approach to testing and repair extends the life of wooden structures up to 75 years.
